We always follow a holistic approach, because oral health is closely connected to the entire body — and general health is often reflected in the mouth.
Your overall health, both maintaining and improving it, is therefore at the centre of our biological treatment philosophy. To support you in the best possible way, we carry out a comprehensive medical history before any treatment. This includes previous illnesses, current medications, and individual lifestyle factors. With your consent, we also contact your general practitioner if anything requires clarification — ensuring truly interdisciplinary care. From this, our focus then moves specifically to:
Interference field therapy: Removal of chronically burdened teeth (e.g., root-treated, infected, or chronically inflamed teeth such as wisdom teeth)
Reduction of inflammation: Focus on silent, low-grade inflammatory processes
Optimisation of healing: Supporting regeneration after implants, extractions, or surgical procedures
Metal-free dentistry: Use of biocompatible materials such as ceramics for fillings, restorations, and implants
Material testing: Individual biocompatibility assessment (e.g., LTT)

Check-up examinations
We recommend twice-yearly check-ups to detect and treat caries, gum inflammation, and other issues early — before they can lead to tooth loss.
Professional dental cleaning (PZR)
Our professional cleanings remove stubborn deposits, prevent periodontitis, and leave your mouth feeling clean and fresh — medically beneficial and aesthetically effective.
Caries & fillings
When a tooth is damaged, we use modern, biocompatible filling materials — aesthetic, durable, and as tooth-conserving as possible.

We take the time to explain everything clearly and discuss all treatment options with you — at eye level and without technical jargon.
Metal-free treatment: ceramics instead of metal
A key principle of holistic biological dentistry is the choice of materials. Wherever possible we work metal-free: with fillings made of composite or ceramic inlays, with all-ceramic crowns and bridges and with ceramic implants made of zirconia.
Since 2005 Boris Nikas has specialised in ceramic zirconia implants. You can choose between titanium-zirconium implants from Straumann, the only ones worldwide made of both materials, and pure zirconia implants. This makes it possible to replace a tooth completely metal-free on request.
On request we check in advance which materials you tolerate, for example with an LTT (lymphocyte transformation test).

What does holistic biological dentistry mean?
Oral health is connected to the whole body. That is why, before treatment, we record previous illnesses, medication and lifestyle in a comprehensive medical history and, with your consent, consult your family doctor if anything is unclear.
Are there metal-free implants?
Yes. We have been placing zirconia implants since 2005. You can choose between titanium-zirconium implants from Straumann and pure zirconia implants. More in the dental glossary under ceramic implant.
Can I have my material tolerance tested?
Yes. On request we check your tolerance individually in advance, for example with an LTT (lymphocyte transformation test).
What is interference field treatment?

Are old amalgam fillings replaced?
If an amalgam filling is tight and causes no problems, it can stay. We replace leaking or broken amalgam fillings with metal-free materials, and also on request.
Does health insurance pay?
Basic health insurance in Switzerland does not cover dental treatment. Supplementary dental insurance contributes depending on the policy. Billing is based on the Dentotar tariff and the actual work involved; before larger treatments you receive a cost plan.
